Welcome to Wordplay Thursday!
“Children are _____.”
Here’s a writing prompt for you. It’s a simple fill-in-the-blank. You can use one word or several. Feel free to get as crazy, genre-appropriate, or as imaginative as you want. The point is to get the creative juices flowing. And it’s a good thing to dig deeper, so don’t stop at the first idea that hits you. Try coming up with at least five things.
And try to get IMAGERY in at least one of your plays.
“Children are _____.”
I’ll give you an example to get you started:
“Children are sweet tornadoes.”
I’d love to hear what you come up with, so please share in the comments. Oh, and please keep your posts below an R-rating. It’s a family show, after all!
And thanks to Brandon Tijolo Russ, Tommy Kib, Ty Devine, Billy Sweeney, Barney Coulter, Sam Moore, David Ayers, Debbie Convoy, Melinda, Susie Strange, Ed, Jerry Childers, Larry M Clark, Pam Parker, Kris Fisher, Matt Karpoff, Ronnie Glenn, Kim Kondrashoff, Antara Mallick, Michael Aiken, Joe MacKennon, Rika Love, Ken Matthiesen and everyone else for your great additions to Wordplay Thursday #143 (read it here)! Great job!
God Bless and Enjoy the Journey,
Brent
Children are _____
– what we all once were

– love growing cell by cell
– the greatest gift we could ever get
– the reason selfishness is stupid
– a great reason to not live in bars
Children are:
-every day a thousand smiles, a thousand cries, a thousand why’s then finally good night.
-are little people that make big people wonder what they were thinking.
-natural born manmade wonders of love.
-God’s mirrors of our lives.
-where grandkids come from.
Children are the light of the world
Giving hope to the future of all
Handed down from the Lord above
To teach us all the meaning of Love
Children are _____
…guitar solos; adults are the bass line
…zip-lining through the best part of life
…God’s magic act
…the sparks that charge up our life
…crystal balls with little feet
Children are:
-pure souls with clean slates
-curious world explorers
-the reflection of our own goodness
-natural scientists
-born filled with unconditional love and trust
-influenced and shaped by those around them (choose your words and actions wisely!)
Children are a blessing, a gift of human inspiration
Often they do things without a thought of hesitation
Children are all around us no matter what their age
Youthfulness comes and goes by every turning page
Children are our future
Children are a great
Children are a legacy of life
Children are a hurry up and wait
Children are the nostalgia staring right back at you, that quickly goes away as they get older.
Children are. . .
Singing at the top of their lungs, whispering too loud
Dancing like they just don’t care in the middle of a crowd
(Now to be fair, that also describes drunk people. :-))
Love both parts of your comment!
Thanks so much, Linda! 🙂
Children;
are so innocent yet so intuitive.
are unintentional hilarious comedians!
are a spittin’ image & a chip off the ol’ block.
are so cute one can’t resist hugging them!
are the biggest thrill for grandpa & grandma when they receive their art work in the mail & proudly put it up on their fridge!
Children are:
1 + 1 + love.
God’s gift.
Loving sprites.
Expensive.
Adventurous.
The glue that unites a family.
Children are…
All of the worlds to keep
let’s raise them as our own
and when they close their eyes to sleep
may they know how much they’re loved
Noisey Parrots
Children are :
– a gift that keeps on giving
– your piece of immortality..you continue in them when you are gone
– a genetic reflection of the past, a promise of the future
Children are…
…reflections of our sweetest recollections.
…blank slates looking for unlocked gates.
…full of hopes and dreams. Pray they won’t have to swim upstream.
…meant for play and learning, like fallen leaves ever turning.
…seeds of tomorrow bearing both joy and sorrow.
Children are…
Laughing like the geese are a cackling.
A gift from God, wrapped in gold and treasured
Energetic from wake up to sleep
Absorbing information with sight and smell and sound
Children are light bulbs in dark tunnels.
Children are post-it notes with the word “PLAY” written in crayon.
Children are jumping to the moon so they can eat it.
Children are somersaults under your office desk.
Children are, the teachers of life’s greatest lessons
They’re by far, the greatest of our Father’s blessings…
