Welcome to Wordplay Thursday!
“Neighbors are ________.”
Here’s a writing prompt for you. It’s a simple fill-in-the-blank. You can use one word or several. Feel free to get as crazy, genre-appropriate, or as imaginative as you want. The point is to get the creative juices flowing. And it’s a good thing to dig deeper, so don’t stop at the first idea that hits you. Try coming up with at least five things.
And try to get IMAGERY in at least one of your plays.
“Neighbors are __________.”
I’ll give you an example to get you started:
“Neighbors are a five-year-old’s knock on our back door, asking if Ozzy can come out to play.”
I’d love to hear what you come up with, so please share in the comments. Oh, and please keep your posts below an R-rating. It’s a family show, after all!
And thanks to everyone for your great additions to Wordplay Thursday #151 (read it here)! Great job!
God Bless and Enjoy the Journey,
Brent
Neighbors are ________.
– our security service while we are away.
– part of the family.
– loud, lazy and leaving!
– the strangers next door.
– grateful, their water leak was caught and stopped, by their neighbor. That was the best news they got while in Mexico. Wonder if they will being me a souvenir?
Neighbors are fickle, always in and out, like the soccer ball in my backyard, like the cars and bikes and meows.
Neighbors are a steady hand on the wheel as you ride on the well yelling “Here Boy!”
Neighbors are ________.”
…the reason I’m movin’
…extended family, always lookin’ out for my security
…nosin’ in on me, trespassin’ all over me
…the helping hands when someone else is kickin’ sand
…high security detail on our block
WOW! We must have the same neighbors, or we’re on the same creative wavelength today.. our 5 are really similar! LOL!
too funny 🙂
Neighbors are….
a Ford Fairlane up on blocks and a revving engine with an annoying knock.
a front porch rockin’ 72 year old man, who polices and keeps his nose where he can.
the rhythm of a dribbling basketball, then a pause and silence before it slaps the wall.
a clan of people at the front door with words of concern, encouragement, and food for four
a steady convoy of SUV drivin’ passersby, with a look, a wave, a howdy and a hi.
an intense contest built on Christmas lights, once tall melted snowmen and snowball fights.
kids on bikes screaming from their yards, a lemonade stand, and parked soaped up cars.
average Joe greenskeepers cutting grass ’cause it’s old, across similar little houses all lined up on a road.
Neighbors are:
-always there to make sure you wake up early on Sunday mornings.
-the main reason we keep the yard mowed.
-why we build tall privacy fences to peek through.
-put on earth to buy yap yap dogs.
-the little waves and smiles you get while you’re outside doing what they pay a service to do.
Neighbors are __________
… always watching when it comes to HOA codes, but never see a think when you get robbed and your stuff is getting hauled down the road.
… sometimes like next of kin, often times right next to sin
… definitely a curious lot, sometimes helpful, most times not
… changing a lot over a span of 20 years or so, but it’s quite amazing to be blessed to have stayed put and watch the trees and children grow.
… not spreading as many rumors since, we’ve built that 8 ft wide board privacy fence!
Neighbors are ________.”
…weddings and wakes, tears and handshakes
High fives and nosedives in backyard games
They’re brothers and sisters you never had
Neighbours will always have your back
Neighbors are the soil in which we are planted
Our shared flowerbeds
Where there are rocks, only weeds will grow
Where there is fertile ground, the daffodils will show
Neighbours are nice…when they ain’t being nosy…
Neighbours are like Murpy’s law…they’re always around when you don’t need’em …& when you do….you won’t see hide nor hair of’em…
Neighbours are like pack rats…when it comes to borrowing tools…& never returning them…
Neighbours are noisy…especially Sunday morning 4:am when your trying to sleep..& all you can here is ” High Way To Hell ” by ACDC…
Neighbours are basically good people…if they’d only stop doing all the above…
Neighbors are the trees in every part of life you go; always changing, never being sure if they are friend or foe.
Neighbors are…
…the strangers that I pass each day, I think it’s about time for me to say, “Hey!”
…the people who greet my dog like I’m not there at the end of the leash.
…watchers who like keeping track
of who comes and goes as if I’m selling crack.
…those who know my dog’s name,
sometimes I wish they would treat me the same.
…having a big party again.
Wish they would take a break now and then.
“Neighbors are as good,
As the height of the boards,
You use to build
Good fences…”
… are the warm cup of coffee over the back fence
… are newspaper collectors when you are out of town
… put your dog back in the your yard
