FREE GIFT
Hey, ya’ll! At the bottom of today’s post, I’m going to let you know about some free stuff I’m giving away to all of you great Man vs. Row subscribers. Now, on to today’s post…
Here’s a writing prompt for you. It’s a simple fill-in-the-blank. You can use one word or several. Feel free to get as crazy, genre-appropriate, or as imaginative as you want. The point is to get the creative juices flowing. And it’s a good thing to dig deeper, so don’t stop at the first idea that hits you. Try coming up with at least five things.
“My hometown’s smaller than __________.”
I’ll give you an example to get you started:
“My hometown’s smaller than a seed tick.”
I’d love to hear what you come up with, so please share in the comments. Oh, and please keep your posts below an R-rating. It’s a family show, after all!
SHOUT OUT!
Thanks to Steve, Jeff Green, Dionne Kumpe, Gary Snead, Barney Coulter, Janet Goodman, Mark Steven Brocke, Paul Alvin Harris, Pamela Talley Parker, Taylor Sappe, Tommy Kib, Rick Crook, Daren Neely, Linda Mckenzie, Jerry Childers, Vivian Hoskins and Matt Martoccio for your great additions to Wordplay Thursday #39 (read it here)! Great job!
MAN VS. ROW… LIVE!
I’m excited to be speaking on song idea discovery and development at the 2014 Songwriting And Music Business Conference in Nashville, TN! Click the image below to find out more. I’d love to see you there!
FREE GIFT
As a way to say “thank you” to all of you who subscribe to Man vs. Row by email, I’m going to give away some cool stuff in July (2014). If you subscribe to MvR, I’ll send you a free report, “10 Things The Pro Knows.” I’ll also send you the guitar/vocal of “Crickets,” which is the title track of Joe Nichols’ current album. You’ll get to hear the song as Joe heard it when he decided to record it. You’ll also receive the lyric file of the song- and this lyric file includes “Baxter’s Boneyard” – all the lines that DIDN’T make it into the song (see if you agree with our choices). It’s something nobody else has seen, and I think it’s pretty cool. But, again, this gift is only for those who subscribe to Man vs. Row by E-MAIL. These gifts will be sent by email, so if I don’t have your email address, I can’t send it to you. God Bless!

My hometown is smaller than
The pimple on my butt
A bumblebee stinger
My faith in the government
My bank account
A Chinese paycheck
My town’s smaller than my ex-wife’s heart
My town’s smaller than my wallet before payday
My town’s smaller than a flea circus
“My hometown’s smaller than the integrity found in Washington”
“My hometown’s smaller than my bosses brain”
“My hometown’s smaller than my mailing list”
“My hometown’s smaller than the memory”
“My hometown’s smaller than one of them fancy smart cars”
My hometown’s smaller than ____________.
– the love I have for you.
– this city of broken dreams.
– my thoughts of yesterday.
– the dreams I left behind.
– the memories I took away.
My hometown is smaller than…
– the chances I’ll ever leave it
– that guy I dated in junior high
– it appears from the scandals coming out of it
– our Wednesday night prayer service
a Mini
– those little slivers of shiny that are passed off as diamond rings in the Sunday circular
– the annual rainfall in Nevada
– my sense of humor about what happened that summer
– a potbellied pig
– my passion for everyone and everything in it
My hometown’s smaller than…
A Smart Car
A trailer park
The spec in her eye
A lazy man’s aspirations
The dreams that I’ve held down
My hometowns smaller than a minner in the ocean
……smaller than a gnats bugger!
My hometown is smaller than…
1. The head of a pin.
2. Most all that I’ve seen.
3. One stoplight might aid.
4. Any speck on a map.
5. My girl’s engagement ring.
My home town’s smaller than the biggest minnow in the ocean
My home town’s smaller than my dollars in the bank
My home town’s smaller than a chigger on a flea’s butt
My home town’s smaller than my x-wife’s heart
What’s interesting here, is I never read anyone else’s comments and then I see that many of the things I say are also said by others (close to mine or exactly in some cases). Great minds … think alike.
I only look at other’s comments after I have typed my own. So that’s kinda fun.
My hometown’s smaller than a five-minute walk around the block.
My hometown’s smaller than a big city parking lot.
My hometown’s smaller than a movie star’s swimming pool.
My hometown’s smaller than an 18th green.
My hometown’s smaller than my thumb nail.
My hometown’s smaller than raindrops
My hometown’s smaller than my attention sp..Hey look a squirrel
My hometown’s smaller than the gossiper’s mind.
My hometown’s smaller than a humble man’s ego.
My hometown’s smaller than the dreams found in it.
My hometown’s smaller than that list of New Year’s resolutions I completed, than the savings in that old Folgers’ coffee can, than that dream that just got squashed, than a four-leaf clover in a five acre field, a speck of dust in my eye
