Wordplay Thursday #111

Wordplay Thursday

Welcome to Wordplay Thursday!

Here’s a writing prompt for you. It’s a simple fill-in-the-blank. You can use one word or several. Feel free to get as crazy, genre-appropriate, or as imaginative as you want. The point is to get the creative juices flowing. And it’s a good thing to dig deeper, so don’t stop at the first idea that hits you. Try coming up with at least five things.

“Heartache is _____.”

I’ll give you an example to get you started:

“Heartache is a chest full of broken glass.”

Wordplay Thursday

I’d love to hear what you come up with, so please share in the comments. Oh, and please keep your posts below an R-rating. It’s a family show, after all!

And thanks to Linda Keser, Barney Coulter, Ken Matthiessen, Nick S., Anonymous, Kim Kondrashoff, Ethan Fogus, Joe Sly, Mark Johnson and everyone else for your great additions to Wordplay Thursday #110 (read it here)! Great job!

Wordplay Thursday is a great way to the get the creative juices flowing and get some songs started. But what about finishing songs? Sometimes that can be more difficult. That’s why I’ve written “Finish Your Song! 20 Ways To Overcome Creative Roadblocks.” Click here to find out how to finish more songs- faster AND better. Thanks!

God Bless,

  3. Heartache is……
….sometimes worse than cayenne pepper’s ache out the other end.
….. harder to recover from than the life ending heart attack…unless you go to Heaven, aint nothen’ hard or heavy there!
….a fact of life that either makes us or breaks us.
…..can be shifted into laughter if I so choose.
…is a piece of karma snit for the person who deliberately broke your heart.

  4. Heartache is
A car door slamming shut on your dreams
Love blowing away like dust in the wind
    A festering wound
Like dying one breath at a time
A one way ticket to loneliness
A fist squeezing the life out of your soul

  5. Heartache is like:

having your heart thrown in the mud.

an empty canteen in the desert.

a million aphids eating your prize rosebush.

    lightning striking your soul.

a sack of potatoes tied to an anchor.
(Credit to Marty Weeks. We laughed for 5 mins. at that one.)

  6. — a mason jar full of nothing but stale air
    — the hardest part of moving on
    — a bitter wind on a cold dark night
    — a pack of lost coyotes howling in the West Texas moonlight
    — a phone call away
    — is my hot date tonight

  7. …something I can do without.
    …just a headache in a different place.
    …nothing but a heartache…according to Bonnie Tyler.
…& has been the topic of many country songs.
…a valentine that you’ve sent…marked ”Return To Sender”

  8. Heartache is:

a ropeless bucket at the bottom of a well.
a broken window on a submarine.
    a child’s tombstone.
a first kiss your lover shares with another.
    a tear-drenched seatbelt.
