Wordplay Thursday #122

Wordplay Thursday

Welcome to Wordplay Thursday!

Here’s a writing prompt for you. It’s a simple fill-in-the-blank. You can use one word or several. Feel free to get as crazy, genre-appropriate, or as imaginative as you want. The point is to get the creative juices flowing. And it’s a good thing to dig deeper, so don’t stop at the first idea that hits you. Try coming up with at least five things.

“Christmas Eve arrived like _____.”

I’ll give you an example to get you started:

“Christmas Eve arrived like a favorite childhood cousin in from out of town.”

I’d love to hear what you come up with, so please share in the comments. Oh, and please keep your posts below an R-rating. It’s a family show, after all!

And thanks to Dionne Kumpe, Ken Matthiesen, Linda Keser, Nila, Eric Tingstad, Nick S., Barney Coulter, Greg Halvorson, Brenda Karl, Carol Katterjohn, Kim Kondrashoff, and everyone else who played along here or on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook for your great additions to Wordplay Thursday #121 (read it here)! Great job!

Wordplay Thursday is a great creative kickstart.  If you want to focus your creativity to write commercial songs, check out my upcoming C4 Experience.  “Creative” and “Commercial” are two of the “C’s” in “C4.”  Click here to find out the other two “C’s.” Or click on the image below.

  1. “Christmas Eve arrived like _____.”
-every other year, too soon for mom and dad, not soon enough for the kids, and dead on time for the goose.
-a disney movie, full of magic and smiles.
-a long lost puppy finally come home where everyone is all excited and happy for a while, then no one wants to take him for a walk.
-the credit card bills, but we wanted to open the presents.

  2. Christmas eve arrived like…….
the slow, simmering, smell good, holiday tamales.
the eve of the bright and morning, lily of the valley, STAR.
the Lord will never forsake us.
the fine pine perfume from the 8 foot Firs awaiting dewdrop lights.
that one song is taking kinda long.

  3. “Christmas eve arrived like the softness of fallen snow..so warm,so sweet.so bright..all the presents tied with boughs…Let Christmas love stay in our heart’s,and the Spirit of giving be….A babychild of long ago …..was born for you and me…..Immanuel..Christ with us…born to set us free….
(P.S…..thanks so much for starting this Brent….I got a new song from it!…the above lyrics are the first part…awesome..Merry Christmas to you and your family!

  4. Christmas Eve arrived like…

an Amazon Drone. In the diary, and I knew it was coming, but still it felt like it was dropped on me unexpectedly.

A semi on ice. Lots of noise as we stopped moving, and everything juddered a bit.

A shot of whisky. Slid down the bar and ground to a halt in front of the guy next to me.

the Avon rep. There was literally no escape. (see also, the in-laws, the tax man, the Grinch)

  5. – like my last high school pop quiz surprise
    – like my college graduation, the day filled with so much anticipation
    – and as usual I’m not ready although I knew it was coming as it does every single freakin year again and again and makes me wonder why I don’t get ready, buy the gifts, clean the house, put up the tree, hang the lights and then of course there’s the fact that at some point, somewhere during this wordplay I am going to eventually have to come up with a word that will…rhyme
    – and reminded me of the innocence of a newborn’s eyes, filled with so much love he was willing to die so that we could live with him forever proclaiming Christ is Alive

  6. Christmas Eve came like…

…a fury, with last minute gift buying hurry.

…a clap of thunder, bright and full of wonder.

…the first “silent night, filled with expectation bright.

  7. The smell of snow fills the air letting us know that Santa is soon to be here, nestled in the chimneys down he goes, bringing gifts of toys and tidings and a spirit of good cheer, yes Christmas only comes once a year, it’s a reminder to some that Rudolf is near..
