Welcome to Wordplay Thursday!
“Helpless is _____.”
Here’s a writing prompt for you. It’s a simple fill-in-the-blank. You can use one word or several. Feel free to get as crazy, genre-appropriate, or as imaginative as you want. The point is to get the creative juices flowing. And it’s a good thing to dig deeper, so don’t stop at the first idea that hits you. Try coming up with at least five things.
And try to get IMAGERY in at least one of your plays.
“Helpless is _____.”
I’ll give you an example to get you started:
“Helpless is watching her taillights disappear.”
I’d love to hear what you come up with, so please share in the comments. Oh, and please keep your posts below an R-rating. It’s a family show, after all!
And thanks to Barney Coulter, Ed, George Tselios, Shane Tripod, Debbie Convoy, Ron Lovett, Brad Yunek, David Ayers, Ty Devine, Eric Tingstad, Kim Kondrashoff, Nick S, Shoshaunna Hoover Gragg, McD, Ronnie Glenn, Joe MacKinnon, Rick Nolan, Joe Slyzelia and everyone else for your great additions to Wordplay Thursday #145 (read it here)! Great job!
God Bless and Enjoy the Journey,
Brent
“Helpless is _____.”
– … opportunity without desire
– … not wanting to help themselves
– … a Neil Young song 🙂
– … a song in the Broadway (NY, NY) smash play
– … a tapped out basket case bent over a barrel
– … often a waste of time and energy for someone trying to be helpful
– … when opportunity meets preparation and get’s over ruled by procrastination
Helpless is watching my father’s eyes try to say what his voice no longer can.
Helpless is ” the feeling I get when I think of you” Helpless is ” draggin me down, I gotta find a way to turn it around, cause helpless is”helpin me to see you were never right for me.
Who inspired this?
?
Helpless is being lost in a beautiful woman’s eyes.
Helpless is ” helpin me to see you and I were never meant to be” Now helpless is gone and I’m still here” Movin on, past the tears.
Helpless is arriving at the last chicken nugget in the box…
Helpless is wealthless when everything costs…
Helpless is holding on to something that’s been lost…
helpless is a hopeless place to be.
Helpless is….
a lifeless child hanging on by a machine that simply plugs into the wall
a beautiful, multi-colored string as it slowly unravels down to it’s last thread
Judgement Day for a soul who never knew Jesus
a lush, green hillside with flowers and trees in bloom, and an ‘Out of Order’ sign hanging on the rain machine above.
a string of words linking chains of sentences that quickly evaporate into the air, from a voice that makes no sound
a beaten, blood-soaked animal who’s eyes faintly glisten while it’s quivering heart races, but who knows it cannot fight back
a frustrated, lost old man with Alzheimer’s, who is shunned and mocked by those around
Helpless is
Me without your hand to hold
Helpless is living in a broken town with a shattered heart with no way out
Helpless is…
…a flat tire without a spare
…looking for love that just ain’t there
…kicking the dust, ‘cuz the ground’s to dry
…waiting for rain from a cloudless sky
…wishing there was still hope for me and you
Helpless is______
…the man with the wedding band blues
…a life colored in desperate shades of booze
…watching a dream in free-fall
…trapped in a forty hour week
…no answer at doors one, two and three
…the bystander in love
Thanks for the thumbs up Joe. I Love.. the man with the wedding band blues! Ty
Helpless is
a state of mind
If you never search
You will never find
Helpless is feeling
You’re out of time
but the truth is out there
You just gotta’ try
Orlando on my mind…
Helpless is bullets flying overhead, face down on the ground, not breathing playing dead, not knowing if life will continue, how is my friend, is this the end…?
Helpless is the sinking feeling in your stomach when you are stranded on a dark highway.
Helpless is..
A heart made of paper that wants to save the world
ripped to shreds and thrown away, for evil has no cure
I’ll tape this heart together with prayers and good deeds
And pray we find a way to live in perfect harmony
Two thumbs up!
Thanks Tommy!! :))
Two more thumbs up here…well done Ty!
Helpless is the heart machine beeping in the corner,
Hopeless are the words I said when I was trying to warn her
Helpless was the every day watching her waste away
Hopeless are my tear filled eyes knowing she’s gone to stay
Helpless is…as helpless was…like a flat tire in the middle of nowhere…no cell phone… no spare…no nothing…just someone yelling at you through the car window…calling you every name in the book.
…driving 100 miles to a gig to a town of a 100…& suddenly it comes to you…that you left your guitar sitting on your driveway…
…going for a late night skinny dip discovering that someone has made off with all your clothes…
…that bigmouth at the bar…I just told to shut up…to find out he’s just a mere 6′ foot 7” & 350lbs…& me at 5′ 5” & 100lbs soaking wet…yeah…I feel helpless!
…going for your 1rst jump from an aeroplane & for some unknown reason…your chute won’t open…
These are great! Thanks for sharing.
I agree! Great work (or play), everybody!
Helpless is…
…dropping the phone with a clang when hospice says the fat lady sang.
…seeing the flash of the gun pointed at your only son.
…watching the cop car pull away, knowing your boy’s gone astray.
…is the empty soul who has no goal.
Helpless is:
-where desperation is born.
-dangling from a cliff edge loosing your grip.
-watching something you love draw the final breath.
-how we are born and how we end up.
-losing your wallet on vacation.
Helpless … is… without
… your child in ICU
… is the space when hope leaves
… is when God is usually called
Helpless is not knowing what to do
Helpless is never a last resort, there’s hope
Helpless is something we all have felt before
Helpless is often lifted up when tears fall down
