Welcome to Wordplay Thursday!
“Hope is __________.”
Here’s a writing prompt for you. It’s a simple fill-in-the-blank. You can use one word or several. Feel free to get as crazy, genre-appropriate, or as imaginative as you want. The point is to get the creative juices flowing. And it’s a good thing to dig deeper, so don’t stop at the first idea that hits you. Try coming up with at least five things- and try to get IMAGERY in at least one of your plays!
“Hope is ________.”
I’ll give you an example to get you started:
“Hope is when you see your crush slamming her boyfriend’s car door in tears.”

wishing he’d call and then feeling your phone vibrate in the back pocket of your jeans.

seeing the sun trying to poke through those clouds, as if telling them to go away
as you’re looking out the the window on the morning of your wedding day.

Seeing an exit sign with that fuel pump icon on a lonely stretch of highway and the needle is on E.

for the future
thankful is for the past
for what it taught us
and that it didn’t last
Hope is…….
-the bounce and slow bite of a white dimpled ball, as the finely manicured blades of grass and shape of the earth lead it on it’s merry way.
-the soft, smooth texture of your newborn’s skin against your left arm, while you keep an eye on bankers and fund managers via digital data in your hand.
-the deafening rumble and cheer of a Saturday two-toned mass of people, as they clash with emotion and motivate their well-oiled, gridiron machines below.
-the trembling walk of a man who came from great distances in the back of the room, and made it all the way to the front before he broke down while kneeling.
-devouring grandma’s Sunday fried chicken so fast, because the thick, sweet, apple pie smell coming from the kitchen makes you greedy.
A long night traveling
Anticipating
My mind racing
Hope is moving me on
Will she be waiting
Arms a reaching
To welcome me back home
Hope is the road I’m on

…hidin’ in the back of my mind,
waitin’ for a chance to come out
…slowly drifting away,
sending me an SOS
…the day she smiled hello,
and I waved my past goodbye
…one of these green-light days
when everything goes my way
…what’s keepin’ me afloat
…always standing next to my side,
whisperin’ in my ear
‘come along for the ride’

is emotionally essential for survival such as food, water & air are for our physical survival.
”Hope” is a little town in northern B.C. Canada & once you’ve gone through it….your approaching another little town called ”Spuzzum” a.k.a. ” Beyond Hope ”….
