  1. The battle lines were drawn on her face
Our home has not been a peaceful place
Each one working thoughtful battle plans
How did we devolve from our peaceful world
Words like arrows can’t be pulled back
We fire them daily because we lack
the love and trust that has to be
If “me” becomes a better “we”
WE both know what is necessary
Less anger, less distance, less verbal artillery
I’ll work on it,and I think so will she
And bring back those first year warm memories

  2. ‘Casualties of Love & Laughter’

    V1
-Battle lines are drawn in her face.
-In trenches I hid to help keep her pride and the war at bay.
-The mirror a defecting ally she stares right through.
-Water’s high in those fighting eyes makin’ green turn blue.

    V2
-Doubt’s bullets flyin’, like a hive of bees up in the air.
-Her mascara starts to run ‘cause it just got too scared.
-She says, “I look terrible. What the heck will I do?”.
-She’s still the bomb to me you see, if she only knew.

    CH.
    Assault my senses.
    Brainwash my mind.
I’ll be her prisoner of war standin’ there ‘til the end of time.
I can wade through the muck and walk behind in heavy boots.
I’ll put the light out at night when she’s short fused.
….Just the causalities of love and laughter.

  3. The Battle Lines are drawn on her face.
She’s been spending lonely nights, sharpening her blades.
Ready to start a war at the first sight of his green beret.
Crow’s feet become falcon’s talons eager to pierce flesh and make rivulets of blood run across the map of his skin.
Muddied as it mixes with the toxic sweat.
The marks of foreign occupation that can’t be scrubbed off.
The dread when a raid bursts through the door of his secret hiding spot.
What choice remains, but to drop the bomb, and build something new when the devastation has stopped.

  4. Deception – By Tony True – Jan -8-2018

    Verse 1
On the outside they seemed to be the perfect pair
Leading everyone on, like they were really in love
But deception runs deep, in a world that’s not fair
And truth’s like an iron hand, in a velvet glove

    Verse 2
He was a lawyer, at a major firm in town
High profile clients, with pull in the highest places
Her money came from real estate she sold uptown
Putting on airs around the nameless faces

    Chorus
She’s tired and worn from the lies and pretending
Looking for true love and a fairy tale ending
Covering her battle scars painting her fading face
Longing for happiness and a warm embrace

    Verse 3
She knows it’s not all his fault she’s let him down too
Married as a stay home wife to raise their family
Things changed when she wanted more from life than she knew
They must face the fact their life looks like a cheap forgery

    Chorus
She’s tired and worn from the lies and pretending
Looking for true love and a fairy tale ending
Covering her battle scars painting her fading face
Longing for happiness and a warm embrace

    Bridge
It wasn’t always this way; they married with love
But money and status can change you more than you imagine
Now it’s fake smiles and embraces, masking their mutual hate
Living separate lives together in a cruel twist of fate

    Chorus
She’s tired and worn from the lies and pretending
Looking for true love and a fairy tale ending
Covering her battle scars painting her fading face
Longing for happiness and a warm embrace

    Tony True
