In light of another tragic school shooting, I think we may all (here in the US) have a lot on our minds. As songwriters, we often process things in words and melody. I hope this week’s Wordplay Thursday can help you if you’re not sure how to begin.
Here’s a line to get you started. Feel free to use it to start off YOUR song. It could be the first line of your song, or not. Feel free to change the line up some. Whatever helps.
“Hug your kids…”
I’d love to hear what you come up with, so please share in the comments.
God Bless,
Brent
I was sittin’ next to some old timer in a bar.
The news came on and told us of another shooting, so bizarre.
I said,
There’s to much about life we can’t control.
Violent school days are taking a toll.
Too many people are losing their minds.
Seems we’re so far away from patient and kind.
That old timer told me all you can do, is…
Chorus
Hug your kids.
Let them know there’s a better way to go.
Hug your kids.
We can’t pretend they know what they really don’t know.
Hug your kids often and a lot
Hug them with everything you’ve got.
That’s the one thing you can do is,
Hug your kids so they feel love.
V2
He said his name is Chet and he’s been around too long but can’t forget.
The most important thing we do is show love.
Thought maybe I should go home make sure those kids don’t feel alone.
We finished one more drink while the news continued to make me think.
Hug your kids
hang on.. till they say let go
kiss each cheek
leave no doubt they know
leave no doubt they know
it takes a lot of love
to get you to hello
