Wordplay Thursday #91

Wordplay Thursday

Welcome to Wordplay Thursday!

I think a huge part of effective writing, songwriting or otherwise, is wrapping intangible ideas or emotions in imagery.  I want you to wrap today’s topic in sensory images.  Use any or all of the five senses.  How does this idea LOOK, SOUND, SMELL, TASTE, and FEEL?

Feel free to get as crazy, genre-appropriate, or as imaginative as you want. The point is to get the creative juices flowing. And it’s a good thing to dig deeper, so don’t stop at the first idea that hits you. Try coming up with at least five things.

And remember, we’re going for ONLY imagery.  We’re not talking ABOUT the topic.  We’re SHOWING the topic with imagery.  Show me, don’t tell me!

Today’s topic is:

CHEATER

I’ll give you an example to get you started:

“He slipped his ring-hand into his pocket as he reached out his other to hand her a margarita.”

I’d love to hear what you come up with, so please share in the comments. Oh, and please keep your posts below an R-rating. It’s a family show, after all!

God Bless,

Brent

  1. Good morning everyone. So I don’t get called out for a novel this week I’ll try some quick lines. ;]

“Got a password on your phone but not on your face
Sitting here typing your smile gives it all away”

“He’s got texts, tweets, emails and snaps
A different name on every app”

“With his new name, new town just for the night
His ring dissappears like he’s magic mike.”

“We’ll meet you there just like she said
Stealing kisses when she turns her head.”

“Wake up with the sun and his smell on our sheets
Mind racing what did you do to us, to me
Now lines on the paper can’t take the pain away
Lines on the table help me escape from this day”

  2. Married three years and she thought that they were fine
but she couldn’t see him winking at the blonde on his line

Playing checkers with my grandpa, “lookie there” I heard him say
I was winning till I looked, now I’m losing what the.. Hey!

  3. She wrote fast with a blue BIC pen,
    Trembling to get down the answers;
Her sweaty palms revealed it all,
So she shoved them in her pockets.

  4. That lip gloss on the floorboard of his Lexus was not his girlfriend’s shade of pink.

He’s got a hotel key in his wallet
He’s got her number on his iPhone 6
He’s gonna ring her up the first chance he gets
But first he’s got to take out the garbage
He’ll toss the ball around with his kids
And when it’s time to leave he’ll give the wife a kiss

  5. fingers crossed behind your back, you’ll need to practice that innocent face in the mirror because you’re not fooling anyone. The reassuring tone in your voice is a little too exaggerated, a little too staged, feels like I’m about to become the punchline in your act.

  6. He cut in to enlist early, couldn’t wait to beat the crowd Knew how to work the system, never made his sergeant proud Always won at poker, never lost when it came to girls Got to fly up front when it came time to leave his world

He never called it cheating Til the bullets began to fly One with his name never beat him But he watched many brothers die Leaving him to call it cheating

  7. You used to call me baby
    We couldn’t get enough
    Of holding one another
    We were so in love
    Barely holding on now
To what we used to have
    One night of hidden passion
    Strayed off the narrow path
    Destroyed what once was holy
    Shattered by the guilt
    Full of pain and lonely
In the house that sin built

  8. 1. Bloodshot eyes and smoke stained fingers,
As the smell of whiskey lingers
Like the unrelenting doubt that she can’t shake

    2. Her tales were far too tall to take
What a tangled web she weaves
And it would be her last mistake
As he gets up, one last time to leave

    3. It was a quarter to midnight
    And where had she been
I turned on the porch light
That’s when I saw her with him

    4. A bright red stain on his shirt collar
Her name and number scribbled on a dollar
The smell of cheap perfume still in his hair

    5. Why’s he texting you at midnight
Why’d you tell him bout our big fight
Why you wearing that same dress again
The one with the real low neckline

  9. A gnawing at my shoulder to pull me down from behind
Who changed that score? What happened there?
Are my eyes now going blind?
Circled by the hounds that chase when in a pack.
Was I a stay by myself? Who saw that coming?
Do I run away looking back?
The shifting of the eyes was what clued me in.
Did I let my guard down? Will I know for sure?
    Am I deceived once again?
