Wordplay Thursday #136

Wordplay Thursday

Welcome to Wordplay Thursday!

Here’s a writing prompt for you. It’s a simple fill-in-the-blank. You can use one word or several. Feel free to get as crazy, genre-appropriate, or as imaginative as you want. The point is to get the creative juices flowing. And it’s a good thing to dig deeper, so don’t stop at the first idea that hits you. Try coming up with at least five things.

And this week, let’s try to get at least one image in at least one of our plays.

“Springtime is _____.”

I’ll give you an example to get you started:

“Springtime is a dandelion, popping up as if to say, ‘I’ll go first’.

I’d love to hear what you come up with, so please share in the comments. Oh, and please keep your posts below an R-rating. It’s a family show, after all!

And thanks to Brandon Tijolo Russ, Dionne Kumpe, Ty Devine, Mitch Matthews, Nick S, Linda Keser, Debbie Convoy, John C Luna, Barney Coulter, Kim Kondrashoff and everyone else for your great additions to Wordplay Thursday #135 (read it here)! Great job!

I’ve received several requests for 1-to-1 coaching.  I don’t do them very often, but I’ve opened up several spots.  I want to help you on your songwriting journey by giving feedback on your songs, guiding you as you develop your song idea, answering your questions, and even writing a song with you.

God Bless and Enjoy the Journey,

  1. Springtime is…

…the first yellow forsythia blooms renewing our hope and dreams.

…the awakening of life from deep slumber.

…robins hopping with joy to be home again.

…tulips and daffodils dancing in the breeze, shouting warmth’s arrival with their vibrancy.

  2. Springtime is listening to the birds sing as if they are trying out for a Disney movie

Springtime is watching the grass grow and knowing sooner or later I have to fix the lawnmower

Springtime is dirty windows staring at me

Springtime is the Crack of a baseball bat

Springtime is visions of sand water bikinis and a break from reality

  3. Springtime is:
-an eruption of color with a hint of warmth and a whisper of robin song with a suttle but bold promise of hope.
-not without it’s flaws. One being the need for the female half of the nest to scrub and rearrange and require the perfectly content male half to participate.
-spending 300.00 on a new driver , losing 12 balls in the first round you use it but somehow shooting an 80.
-is God’s paint brush putting on a fresh new coat.
-when every baseball team is in first place.

  4. Springtime is…

The birds chirping outside my window, singing a song of a new season and a fresh start.

Holding on to the back of your child’s bike, running faster, as they get ready for you to let go.

  5. “Springtime is _____.”

… an empty tomb that provides hope eternal worldwide for all who believe

… miles and miles of highways and backroads dressed with bluebonnets

… time for gatherings with good friends, great music, cold beer and hot crawfish scattered across tables covered with newspaper

… Having to explain a little more than I’d like to the kids about why the birds appear to be riding on each others backs on the ground

… the beginning of the end of the cold dark period and a hint of the bright sunny days ahead!

  6. Springtime is the approaching warmth of the summer sun battling with the last cool breeze of winter.

  7. Springtime is that warm breakthrough a curtain of cold .. it is bare tree limbs now clothed in green ..roses budding to a palate of color.. new birds, new sounds, new scents,.. new feel … a change

  8. Springtime is green hills speckled with a new fluorescent color each day.
Springtime is a warm breeze making your living room curtains ripple and glow.
Springtime is a festival of birds singing all your favorite songs at the same time.
Springtime is a playground with mud puddles under the swings.
Springtime is a driveway covered in the soft white snow of flower petals.

  9. Springtime is….
Sometimes…. an animal of sorts, stealing from others…like a hyena or a buzzard, or a “brave” lion does in their nature.
    ?

  10. Springtime is …
    new foals in the fields
    green in the grasslands
    a robin with it’s redbreast

a morning frost with a late arriving sun and the shivering thought of an extended winter’s grasp…

  11. Springtime is
… a time for working off your winter bulge
… getting a dividend by spending time outdoors with a child
… is seeing Mother Nature at Her best
