  1. America is……….

The sound of wild horses running, keeping in time to Creedence Clearwater Revival’s Fortunate Son on AM radio, as you park your Pontiac at the Capitol and protest.

Sittin’ on the couch in my Chuck Connors Converse, Levi’s, and favorite flannel just takin’ it all in, while Willie Nelson, Bob Dylan, and Bruce Springsteen put the finishing touches on a song.

The Russian’s mouthpiece falling out of his mouth as his head hits the mat, and a worn out Rocky Balboa stands with gloves high in the air.

Rolling through the mountains in a ’69 Bronco with no top and your girlfriend’s feet on the dash, singin’ John Denver at the top of her lungs, while a bald eagle soars above.

The door propped open on a small quick-shop just off the highway, with cold bottles of YooHoo, Bomb-pops, dirty magazines hidden behind the counter, the smell of minnows, and a good supply of fishing tackle can be bought.

  2. America is:
the ride to grandma’s in the winter chill
the cheers of triumph or the rage of fury
the smell of hot dogs on the summer grill
my home, whose freedom shines in glory

  3. “America is __________.”

    Hard-workin’ and game face on
    Headlinin’ the world stage
    Plugged into freedom
    America is

  4. America is …
Standing with my hand over my heart …
Football, fishin’, and ice-cold beer …
Workboots and old blue jeans …
flagpole in the yard flyin’ the red, white and blue …
prayin’ every day for folks in uniform …
    … blessings on ya <

  5. America is …..
    – the land of the free but at what cost?
    – est pulchra(for my favorite Latin teacher)
    – hamburgers and fries, fireworks in the night skies on a lazy Fourth of July
    – my home, my place, my old dog and a child’s face
    – the old west and tumbleweeds, now skyscrapers and corporate greed.

  6. “America is an open road, top down, blue sky extravaganza.”

“America is red states, blue states, me states and you states.”

“America is wind off the bay, blowing my way, and sprinkling the spray on my face.”

“America is mothers and fathers, and uncles and aunts, grandparents and grandkids without any wants.”

“America is mountaintop vistas that we visit in cars, where at nightfall on hoods we gaze up at the stars.”

  7. America is…
Like home. If you have no place to go, they have to take you in.

    America is….
The lump in my through and the tears welling up in my eyes every time I hear our anthem before a big game. Watching players and fans singing along with hands over hearts.

  8. … was a small door at Ellis Island opening a land of opportunity to the needy and willing . Is now the challenge of appreciation and assimilation .
… is a theory at work … not the result of capture or lineage ( royalty ).
    … a challenged light
    … a trend setter

  9. America is basking in the beautiful grace of God. ( Ok no imagery there, but hey aliteration at least.)

  10. America is a very good friend to Canada!
…is where jazz, blues, country & rock’n’roll music were born.
…is where the movies & Hollywood came to be.
… is a Harley Davidson motorcycle.
…is Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins.
    …is Muhammad Ali.

      1. A belated Happy New Year Joe!
I hope you keep writing! You’ve got that wicked dry sense of humor! In today’s world we need more of that man!

  11. America is………

Lee Greenwood singing Happy Birthday to you, then automatically going into God Bless the USA.

a Nolan Ryan 100mph fast ball kissing the drooling mouth of Donald Trump and creating a red, white and blue star-spangled array of colors, where an orange faced, floppy haired man once stood.

your uncle throwing a backyard hail Mary touchdown at the 4th of July cookout, while he calls The Miracle On Markham word for word, and hamburgers burn on the grill. -Woo Pig!

  12. America is millions of grains of sand that make up a sunny beach on the east coast of Florida.
America is the feeling of standing up for what you believe in despite any cost, because there are a lot of things worth fighting for.
America is a song, with millions of notes in simultaneous harmony and dissonance.

  13. America is…
That little old house where you’re always welcome
The smell of home made biscuits as you walk through the door
That swing on the porch you take your Sunday nap on
A long warm hug when you’re shaken to the core
It’s the song you first played on that broken old guitar
It’s the melody to the beat of your heart
    It’s knowing you’re never alone
    America’s love, America’s home

  14. America is………
    a broomstick cowboy wannabe,
a footstep on the moon via tv screen,
denim well-worn and always good to me,
Elvis still alive holdin’ Lisa Marie,
    political parties agreeing to disagree,
speaking my mind ’cause it’s so free,
purple for Prince and mountain majesties,
keepin’ the faith for the Kennedy’s,
standing up each day to pray on my knees,
throwin’ up two fingers as a sign for peace,
‘The Fightin’ Side Of Me’ if feelin’ mean,
apple pie with never-meltin’ ice cream,
Wayfarers hiding skin color so we can see,
to sleep easy at night thanks to military,
USA beats Russia on ice 1980,
the dream of Martin Luther King,
    concrete jungle meets Mayberry RFD,
John Cougar said, “Ain’t it somethin’ to see.”,

    ………and you and me.

  15. America is…
a blessing from above via the wings of a dove.
and will always be the greatest freedom for you and me.
a Friday night in Memphis where a 7 year old boy went to see “The American Band” that sparked him to follow his dream.
riding high on a sunny afternoon in the middle of the lake with the “hammer down” and a “wall of sound”.
taken for granted more than we know yet in the end she will always glow.
never ceases to offer the very best.
is only here because of our faithful men and women that carry the red, white and blue. U.S.A. U.S.A. U.S.A.!!
in our prayers each and everyday.
    God’s grace on thee.
    amazing…
