Wordplay Thursday #182

Welcome to Wordplay Thursday!

“Songwriting is __________.”

Here’s a writing prompt for you. It’s a simple fill-in-the-blank. You can use one word or several. Feel free to get as crazy, genre-appropriate, or as imaginative as you want. The point is to get the creative juices flowing. And it’s a good thing to dig deeper, so don’t stop at the first idea that hits you. Try coming up with at least five things- and try to get IMAGERY in at least one of your plays!

“Songwriting is  ___________.”

I’ll give you an example to get you started:

“Songwriting is rhyming the truth.”

I’d love to hear what you come up with, so please share in the comments. Oh, and please keep your posts below an R-rating. It’s a family show, after all!

Wordplay Thursday is a fun way to generate new song ideas- and who doesn’t need more song ideas?  If you’d like an inside look at the techniques I use to find song idea after song idea- ideas that YOU can use, too- I have just thing for you!

  1. …. open eyes and wonder
    … the soul surfacing
    … a primal gift
    … reaching out and sharing
    … observations and inspiration
… difficult.. because it needs to be
… the search for words to match melody and mood

  2. …life spilled onto a page
…a never-ending game of swinging for the fences
    …the ultimate rush
…word farming, tryin’ to grow the best crop
    …a coffee-grindin’, cream risin’ profession

        1. Many thanks Joe! Wordplay Thursday has uncovered the addiction of a mad man here! But hey, this crazy’s been a Joe Mackinnon fan for awhile as well. ??????Uh oh!? Glad to see ya in my therapy circle! -Lol

          Keep it up Joe!!!

  3. …kissing your husband goodbye at 9am, and kissing him again when he gets home at 5pm from the same chair at your kitchen table

  4. Songwriting is……….

tune-like soul food you want all to eat, on a paper plate spooned up with words, melody and beats.

a rattle and hum about life to be sung, that crosses the mind and taken to heart by some.

a lyrical ebb and flow drifting into deep melodic waters, or wherever your mind lets it go.

a collection of paper hearts with all my soul, folded up in notes and rhythm hopefully heard and sold.

the notes left behind from a Bob Dylan psychiatric session.

the life and times of Mr. Bojangles.

  5. Songwriting is how Im young when I feel old
The way I pay the toll for my soul
Songwriting is little true pices of me
The way I want things for us to be
Songwriting is a glance at my broken heart
The courage I need to crawl out of the dark
Jesus, heal me, free me, love me, let me live again. X2

  6. Songwriting is…

    A war of words.
    Reflections of a thinking man.
    Baring it all.
A dreamer and his scrap papers.
Replacing that note pad, at the bedside, now and then.

  7. Is like having good friend, good food, good beer, down by the lake side on a Friday night.

  8. Songwriting is……….
the strongest mortar bought, sold and “on hold”, that binds life’s imagery to the foundations, as Guitar Town builds the biggest hits.
