Wordplay Thursday #191

Welcome to Wordplay Thursday!

Today, we’re going to try something for your writing prompt called “First Line Borrowing.”

Take the first line of a pre-existing song (one off the radio or an album) and see where it takes you! Write some lines, or just brainstorm song ideas that could go with that line.

Here’s a line to get you started. Feel free to use it to start off YOUR song, then go back and change the original line up a little bit. After all, other people will be using this one, too!

“My phone’s lighting up, but I don’t care…”

I’d love to hear what you come up with, so please share in the comments. Oh, and please keep your posts below an R-rating. It’s a family show, after all!

Wordplay Thursday is a fun way to generate new song ideas- and who doesn’t need more song ideas?  If you’d like MORE “creative kickstarters,” join the Frettie.com community today!  In our private Facebook group, I share a handful of creative kickstarters every week.  Plus, there’s plenty more cool stuff for Frettie members!

  1. Here is my verse from the “phone” prompt!!

Sky’s lighting up, great for me to be there
Morning sun, warming up my face
Taking it all in, gazing at the view
Feeling the colours, as they break through

  2. First line “I know you loved him”
    From Don’t Close Your Eyes

    Now I’ll Give You Love

    I know you love him
    I know that it’s true
    But that’s only natural
He’s the first one you knew
    He gave you a house
    He gave you a home
    He gave you a child
    Of your very own

    Now I’ll give you love
    Like you’ve never known
    I’ll give you affection
    That he couldn’t show
    I’ll hold your hand
As we walk down the street
    And I’ll kiss your lips
For the whole world to see
    I’ll make sure you feel
    As pretty as you are
    Now I’ll give you love
    I’ll give you my heart

        1. Last verse:
          I know that it’s hard
          To see him like this
          It brings back the memories
Of the good that he did
          He wasn’t perfect
          But none of us are
          But he did his best
          Carry that in your heart

          1. I’ve been everywhere, man
            I’ve been everywhere, man
            Crossed the deserts bare, man
I’ve breatherd the mountain air, man
Travel, I’ve had my share, man
            I’ve been everywhere
            ??????
Hahaha, sorry Brian I had to. Hank Snow just came to mind, and BLAH,… filterless I guess, there it goes! Nice work on Wordplay Thursday tho!

  3. -My phone’s lighting up, but I don’t care.
-If only wired to the wall, I could take cover from it somewhere.
-This captive ear’s too tired. It’s her emotional grenade, I swear.
-She’s blowing up our communication and shrapnel flies. It’s never fair.
-A following vibration, a buzzing drone up in the air.
-Honing in on my coordinates, drama’s missiles inscribed, “I know you’re there!”
-A chaotic mess of rambling text rubble on the screen in flashing flares.
-Destruction of what little was left, charred and blackened self is what I wear.
-Now sounds of silence a peace of mind. Shellshocked I simply stare.
-Battery life going dead, but I won’t run for the outlet behind the chair.
-Senses alert like a cat, but by playin’ opossum I’ll take her dares!
-Casualties of digital age love & war, Hell on earth, and too many “likes” with too many “shares”.

  4. Racing in the Moonlight

    Phone’s lighting up, but I can’t care
My hands full of you in the midnight air
    What else, could I need
Rolling fast in the grass and your eyes on me

    Hey, girl
    This is my speed
Four on the floor or three on the tree
    Hey, girl
    This is our night
You, me, racing in the moonlight
