Welcome to Wordplay Thursday!
Here’s a writing prompt for you. It’s a simple fill-in-the-blank. You can use one word or several. Feel free to get as crazy, genre-appropriate, or as imaginative as you want. The point is to get the creative juices flowing. And it’s a good thing to dig deeper, so don’t stop at the first idea that hits you. Try coming up with at least five things.
“Lonely is _____.”
I’ll give you an example to get you started:
“Lonely is having no one to hear you snore.”
I’d love to hear what you come up with, so please share in the comments. Oh, and please keep your posts below an R-rating. It’s a family show, after all!
And thanks to Mark Westendorf, Mark Johnson, Tommy Kib, Nick S., Barney Coulter, Debbie Convoy, Cliff Daniels, Theresa, Martin Vipond, Brenda Karl, Kim Kondrashoff, Linda Keser, Ken Matthiessen, Joe Slyzelia, Matt Martoccio, Marc Wildman, Michael Klenda, Ethan Fogus and everyone else for your great additions to Wordplay Thursday #112 (read it here)! Great job!
Wordplay Thursday is a great way to the get the creative juices flowing and get some songs started. But what about finishing songs? Sometimes that can be more difficult. That’s why I’ve written “Finish Your Song! 20 Ways To Overcome Creative Roadblocks.” Click here to find out how to finish more songs faster and better. Or click on the image below. Thanks!

“Lonely is an empty shotgun seat.”
“Lonely is an empty house on Christmas morning.”
“Lonely is the Lord waiting on His people.”
“Lonely is the dollar in my pocket wishing he had friends.”
“Lonely is a wedding ring on the table at Motel 6.”
Lonely is the only way I must feel
Lonely is the only way that I can heal
It’s time to take back what once was his
So now he can feel what lonely is
The anonymous person is me!
Lonely is a tree without a bird…
Lonely is a sky without a star…
Lonely is me, longing is be where you are…
Lonely is a tree without a bird
Lonely is a sky without a star
Lonely is me, longing to be where you are…
Lonely is
-an empty bottle on a long freezing night.
-the quiet felt from the door she slammed.
-being the last one complaing when the boss walks in.
Lonely is as lonely does.
Lonely is the silence in your heart.
Lonely is a one person beach party.
Lonely is a constant one way conversation.
Lonely is love gone away.
Lonely is writing about what lonely is Lonely is toast and tea for dinner
Lonely hearing the voice in your head
Lonely is packing up a lost loved one’s things
Lonely is no one left to call
Lonely is….
1)…not the same thing as being alone.
2)…a mindset.
3)…one’s mind controlling one’s feelings rather than one controlling one’s mind.
4)…sometimes greener on the other side.
5)…what we all have experienced one way or another in our lives; and I choose to embrace wallowing not in it, instead, walking with my LORD.
Lonely is…
A companion in your darkest hour
A heart broken beyond repair
Isolation from living
A friend when no one cares
50,000$ later, a tear stained wedding dress & a groom gone missing.
when all you can hear are your own sad thoughts…
knowing there’s birthday party going on & your the only one not invited.
waking up in a cell on a Sunday morning with a bad hangover, a black eye & having no idea how you got there…
Playing a gig & no one’s there…not even the sound man…
playing hide & seek…your hiding…but your never found…because everybody has gone home…
LONELY IS living alone, since you left home.
But LONELY IS just a beginning, the hurting part of winning. Because this LONELY IS going to heal,
and soon I’ll forget how LONELY IS supposed to feel.
When your good time girl is gone,
you’ll be blowing up my phone, saying you miss my kiss.
I’ll tell you to go to hell, then you’ll be able to tell what LONELY IS.
Lonely is …
– having a bottle of Jack Daniels and no one to it drink with
– making love to someone, who later, you can’t remember their name
Lonely is finishing your own sentences
And getting it wrong
Lonely is leaving the seat up now that she’s gone
?
Lonely is…
a nail in the wall where a family portrait once hung.
a sahara caravan with one camel.
a street sweeper after the parade.
lost in the woods on an overcast night with dead batteries in your flashlight.
being the last survivor in a liferaft.
Lonely Is…
After the funeral of your true love ends and your house is silent
When your heart is raining pain
Missing all the love you pushed away
A cold dark hole you crawl around in
A cancer eating away at your soul
