Welcome to Wordplay Thursday! In the spirit of the upcoming holiday feasting…
“I’m as thankful as __________.”
Here’s a writing prompt for you. It’s a simple fill-in-the-blank. You can use one word or several. Feel free to get as crazy, genre-appropriate, or as imaginative as you want. The point is to get the creative juices flowing. And it’s a good thing to dig deeper, so don’t stop at the first idea that hits you. Try coming up with at least five things- and try to get IMAGERY in at least one of your plays!
“I’m as thankful as ________.”
I’ll give you an example to get you started:
“I’m as thankful as a turkey pardoned by the President.”
I’d love to hear what you come up with, so please share in the comments. Oh, and please keep your posts below an R-rating. It’s a family show, after all!

“I’m as thankful as __________.”
…a pair of now steady hands
of the broken man who turned his life around
to point it in the right direction
…a second chance on it’s very first day
…an answered prayer from the Man upstairs
…it gets when I tally my regrets
and they fit a space no bigger than my pocket
…the breath of a brand new day greeting my face in the
morning
I love your “second chance” and “tally of regrets” .. excellent!
thanks Sammie 🙂
I’m as thankful as :
– a rescued puppy from the shelter
– a newborn’s parents in the delivery room
– a teen on graduation day who finds a car in the driveway with a big red bow!
– the squirrel who lives in my yard full of fruit trees!
Thankful as …
a sinner forgiven
an eagle riding the wind
a broken heart with a shoulder to cry on
a boy with a jar full of lightenin’ bugs
a sailor after the storm
I’m as thankful as…
a withered tree drinking cool august rain
to be quenched, it must feel thirst
to know joy, it must know pain
Nice, Ty.
Thank you Joe! I liked ALL of yours! Happy Thanksgiving everyone.:)
as happy & loud as a set of straight pipes on a ’47 Knuckle Head.
as happy & loud as a Gibson Les Paul blasting through a Marshall cabinet.
as a bottle of champagne popping it’s cork & singing auld lang syne to a brand new year…
as a young teeny bopper when the best looking girl at the school sock hop…walks over & asks me to dance!
as a one armed bandit taking the house for all it’s got….instead of it taking me.
Sorry Brent…I got the adjective completely wrong… too much or too little coffee???
This one might get long as I could be the most grateful dude you’ll ever meet 🙂
“I’m as thankful as __________.”
– I’m as thankful as.. my buddy Glenn,
who was very sick when
he went in to be the recipient of a heart transplant,
walked out with lots of hope, and a quality life again.
– I’m as thankful as Columbus in 1492
when he finally saw land after all that ocean blue
land now filled with promise and freedom for all
and now building on that promise is up to me and you
– I’m as thankful as Mary Magdalene on that weeks 1st day
when going to the tomb where her hero crucified was laid
only to find the tomb empty and He was risen, as he did say
thankful that the same promise applies to us who believe following His prescribed way
– I’m as thankful as a 4 time powerball winner that I have the life I do
For so very many have not 1 iota of the friends and family that I do
I never really have had to go long at all in want or in need
I’m so thankful to be loved by so many, so thankful indeed.
– I’m as thankful as King David, though I’ll not likely write as many books
But I’m not holding out for books, I’m very thankful to the Lord for even a little hook
Most recognize when they see me, always in a thankful mood
That I am truly one very Blessed and incredibly thankful dude.
I’m as thankful as:
a songwriter receiving his first Grammy Award. 🙂
a bird flying across the ocean when he first sees land.
a man found not guilty at his trial for murder.
a soldier ending his tour of duty on his way home safe and alive.
a songwriter receiving a Nobel Prize for Liturature. 🙂
I’m as thankful as….
….the first robin in spring, whose flight is o’er and begins to sing.
….one with no regrets, like a man forgiven who God never forgets.
….a child on Christmas morn, So very glad that I was born.
I’m as thankful :
..as the hungry with a cooler of fresh caught fish
.. as an ignored songwriter with his first publisher ..”yes ”
.. as a first grader waiting for a late mother … to pick him up from school… and sees her
.. for that wagging tail at the front door– every day I come home .. no matter my mood
.. for my wife — who loves me– because of my strengths …. and my weaknesses
.. for breath and life … and time to appreciate them
.. as that freed wild bird — confined for rehab, …. and released to the feel of cool, free air on its face as it soars through clouds and weaves through trees .
I’m as thankful as a deer at the end of hunting season.
Good one.
I’m as thankful as:
A death row inmate with a last minute pardon
A teenager who finally graduated to the adult table on Thanksgiving.
A dog under the kid’s table at Thanksgiving
A Christian on Easter
An orphan with a new home
