Welcome to Wordplay Thursday!
Here’s a writing prompt for you. It’s a simple fill-in-the-blank. You can use one word or several. Feel free to get as crazy, genre-appropriate, or as imaginative as you want. The point is to get the creative juices flowing. And it’s a good thing to dig deeper, so don’t stop at the first idea that hits you. Try coming up with at least five things.
“Regret is _____.”
I’ll give you an example to get you started:
“Regret is long sleeves on a hot day just to hide a Spring Break tattoo.”

Regret is the love I would of had, should a had with you.
Regret is a cancer.
Regret is opportunities missed and mistakes made.

Regret is the regrettable decision to wallow in the waste of yesterday.

“Regret is preceded by “here hold me beer and watch this.”
“Regret is business attire at a pool party.”
“Regret is going all in on a bluff.”
“Regret is watching the flowers grow, sipping hot coffee tormented by last nights choices.”
Regret is
-putting your girlfriend on your bank account then having her find out you’re cheating on her.
-lying next to death having never kissed the one you love.
-buying the most expensive kite in the store and sailing it straight away into the tallest oak in the neighborhood.
-telling your wife “Sure you can go to Arkansas for a week and look for diamonds. I’ll be glad to watch our month old triplets”.
Regret is tears on your signed divorce papers.
Regret is a waste of precious time.
Regret is:
– something to try and forget
– is what I felt, when my snowman began to melt
– rude, rueful and revealing
– is what I get, when I let my feet, get wet
– is walking a high-wire, without a net
Regret is sending that text when all the keys on the keyboard are red.
Regret is walking out to the end of the high dive and not jumping off.
Regret is agreeing to that extra co-write only to hear about your kids walk off home run.
Regret is remembering all the characters and plot lines of Lost, but not remembering where you put your guitar.
Regret is sitting in a rocking chair on the front porch, watching the traffic go by and having to say “I wish I had…”
Regret is…
…the cloud that makes me shine each day.
…self pity unpacking its baggage.
…half baked repentance searing till it’s burnt.
…peeling out from the stadium while hearing the Titans hail Maried a win.
Regret is a choice to look back, not ahead.
Regret is putting salt in a wound, not on the rim of your margarita.
Regret is an angry man changed to his pain, there of his own free will.
Regret is buyer’s remorse with no return policy.
Regret is not living the life you were meant to lead.
Regret is thinking you can come back home the same as when you left.
Regret is just one of few things Sinatra had while he was doing it his way.
Regret is losing an inseparable relationship over a two bit one night stand.
Regret is you always saying ah wouldah’,could’ah, shouldah’…but you didn’ah…so stop whinin’ah about it ah????
Regret is that ideology he had been practising fanatically for over forty years & because of that ideology he got a life sentence…coming to the realization…that it was… all just one big lie.
Regret is just another way of saying…If he could change it he would in a heart beat…but he can’t…

…what I named that egret that I just watched fly away
…one thing that can cause you to run into a wall because you’re looking back instead of forward
… usually the result of a refusal to forget
… when you’re shedding tears instead of sweat
… the custom plate on her new Corvette
I wont go into details, but I came up with a little mantra when I was going through oh, 120 or so hours of “intense group therapy” to stay out of court, and yes it was worth it and I’ve got no regrets, in that situation because the result was expungement (all files were certified to be shredded) :-))))
The mantra is “Respect the threat (temptation) to avoid having to live with regret”

I came up with a little mantra/saying when I was doing a lot of hours of “intense group therapy” to get expunction rather than trial, that coincidentally, that decision to plea is not something that I have regretted… and the day I got the certified letters that all records were destroyed, was a very happy day! :-))))

Not a dang thing I need or want.
A six letter word.
A choice that I can control.
Creeping up on me like the serpent…then I say, “Get behind me, beeeeotchhhh.”
Regret is the domain of the past. It is the drink spilled on my first date’s dress..my Father’s face on a crummy report card .. the shot missed to win the game ( and the home crowd silence ).. Hope to have less as I travel
