Wordplay Thursday

Welcome to Wordplay Thursday!

Here’s a writing prompt for you. It’s a simple fill-in-the-blank. You can use one word or several. Feel free to get as crazy, genre-appropriate, or as imaginative as you want. The point is to get the creative juices flowing. And it’s a good thing to dig deeper, so don’t stop at the first idea that hits you. Try coming up with at least five things.

“Loss is _____.”

I’ll give you an example to get you started:

“Loss is realizing you can’t smell her perfume on the pillow anymore.”

Wordplay Thursday

I’d love to hear what you come up with, so please share in the comments. Oh, and please keep your posts below an R-rating. It’s a family show, after all!

And thanks to Max Maxwell, Dionne Kumpe, Matt Martoccio, Ken Matthiesen, Nancy Deckant, Debbie Convoy, Barney Coulter, Jerry Childers, Linda Keser, Kim Kondrashoff, Tommy Kib, Nick S., W McDonough, Wm and everyone else for your great additions to Wordplay Thursday #131 (read it here)! Great job!

    Loss is:
    – a cost of playing the game
    – is yours, when you choose another
    – is no worse than a tie, when you have an ugly sister
    – is when there are no ounces of prevention
    – is the last breath of a loved one

  5. Loss is…

…time marching forward wile your wheels are spinning on your icy heart.

…drifting in the timeless swirling of your mind.

…the smashed photo in the trash with the empty Jim Beam.

…hearing him call your name when he isn’t there. (This happened to me after my husband died.)

  6. Loss is…

…the smoke of his old love letters swirling up the chimney flue.

Loss…regarding weight…will be a gain…for the oversized …by simply eliminating the midnight drive through at Burger King.

One man’s loss could be another man’s gain.

Loss can start out with small things…such as a person’s keys & over time eventually work it’s way up…to one’s mind.

Loss at Las Vegas…rolled the dice, spun the wheel, played my hand…the money I once had …the casino now has.

Loss is a head of beautiful thick dark wavy hair….over the years…slowly starting to look like something…one would find very common place in a bowling alley.

  9. Loss is finding ripped photos of yourself in the garbage can

  10. Debbie Davidson

    Loss is …..

    that feeling you can’t shake
a four letter word that cuts deep
    what you want back
knowing you’ve given your all but it wasn’t good enough

  11. Loss is…endlessly reliving those moments trying to stop them from happening.

Loss is…telling yourself everything you should have said and didn’t.

    Loss is…a hollow empty ache.

Loss is…getting ready to make a ham sandwich and realizing your boyfriend used the last of the Miracle Whip.

Loss is…being so excited about being in a new band, and having it all fall apart before it started.

Loss is hiding under the bed from your mother.

Loss is…being 15 and your mother is finally coming out of the courtroom telling you that the divorce is final and that you don’t have to testify against your father. (The laws were different a long time ago)

  12. Sometimes loss is the start of something new…
Some things you lose, some things you find…
The loss of something useless might be the start of something important…
    Cheer up so!

    Changes

This time it felt so right
    Changing thoughts and reckless life.
Waking up in the middle of the night,
    Seeing visions in silverish light.
Worries gone and pain just left,
Mind was clear, I took a breath.
Heart was pumping blood in veins,
I could feel it, felt like framed.
    Pictured visions in my mind,
Set my goals, so hard I tried

    And I tried
    And I tried

    There’s no need to worry,
    It’s time for a change.
    I’ll start the new story,
    Don’t let me complain,
    You, don’t let me complain…

    Visions, visions in my head
Breaking out, my goals were set.
Felt relaxed, like fresh, like new.
Visions helped me to get through.
Ray of sun just warmed me up,
Time to change and don’t give up.

    Just don’t give up
    Just don’t give up

    There’s no need to worry,
    I’m starting from new.
I will shine in the glory
    And be there for you.
I will be there for you…

Thanks to my wife, as I came back from a deep deep nowhere. I will always be there for her.

  13. Loss is empty, hollow and gut tightening .It etches my memory with a scar that won’t heal . I know loss is a lesson,a message to learn and avoid …
