Wordplay Thursday #169
January 5, 2017 WordPlay

Welcome to Wordplay Thursday!

“2016 was __________.”

Here’s a writing prompt for you. It’s a simple fill-in-the-blank. You can use one word or several. Feel free to get as crazy, genre-appropriate, or as imaginative as you want. The point is to get the creative juices flowing. And it’s a good thing to dig deeper, so don’t stop at the first idea that hits you. Try coming up with at least five things- and try to get IMAGERY in at least one of your plays!

“2016 was  ________.”

I’ll give you an example to get you started:

“2016 was a long jagged scratch down the side of a shiny new Corvette.”

I’d love to hear what you come up with, so please share in the comments. Oh, and please keep your posts below an R-rating. It’s a family show, after all!

Wordplay Thursday is a fun way to generate new song ideas- and who doesn’t need more song ideas?  If you’d like an inside look at the techniques I use to find song idea after song idea- ideas that YOU can use, too- I have just thing for you!

  1. 2016 was..

    – 2016 was a year that was blessed
though many months I was stressed.
But when the calendar turned, a lot had been learned
and I sure made some pie out of a lot of mess.

    – 2016 was one for the books,
April’s reality wasn’t recognizable next to New Year’s good looks.
October’s rain washed away the pain
as the year changed, all was new again.

    – 2016 was when I was livin’ the dream
my wallet was busting at the seam
every step was positive, if you know what I mean
I was blessed to be the friend on which many could lean

    – 2016 was when we elected Trump
while I said goodbye to Linda, my lymphoma lump
As we start to make America great again
I pray hateful hearts and minds can let love back in

    – 2016 was a great year because
I experienced a lot more good than bad
It’s funny when I think before having a drink
That a better time is usually had

2016 was a blast from the past
2016 was a blur on my rearview
    2016 was a memory-maker
2016 was a dream come true. That was the year that I met you.
2016 was a bug on my windshield.
2016 was a Facebook photo now deleted.
2016 was a new friend made, like the shine on a cherry-red Chevrolet.
2016 was a long goodbye to rock stars, movie stars and friends of mine.

  3. 2016 was when she turned eighteen
My little girl bloomed into a beauty queen
Now the boys are calling and it never ends
It may be time to clean my shotgun again
Put a little fear in that young bucks head
He better have her home just like I said
Don’t give me any lines about getting stuck
Or he’s gonna see a re-run… of Uncle Buck

  4. 2016 was a 52 mile hike thru the mud with a 40lb backpack and wet socks!

2016 was a year of screaming jackals, tearing each other apart over the carcass of a wounded animal.

2016 was anorher year on the hamster wheel.

2016 was the pile of steaming manure that will fertilize the flowers of 2017

2016 was just numbers on a calendar

  5. 2016 was….

A Birkenstock…not very glamorous but comfortable nonetheless.

A rainy afternoon in the car. It starts raining, it stops raining, you can never get the windshield wipers at quite the right speed, then the windows get all steamed up and finally the sun comes out.

  6. 2016 was
the row plane I sent a lyric plus one
the mindfield of an internal fray
a Christmas entry, called, Noel Measure
    when Sopes Copes left 1955
    filled with La Reyna Luna
